Detox Fitness

Rid your body of accumulated toxins and give your system a natural boost.

At one time, thought only to be good for your garage, spring cleaning is also great for your body! Excercise helps increase blood flow throughout your body by working your muscles. In turn, this stimulates lymph flow. The lymphatic system helps safely transport waste from your body via vessels and glands. Keeping your lymphatic system running smoothly keeps your whole body functioning more effectively. Following are a few excercises to implement once a day for two weeks to help you find renewed vitality.

  1. Standing Twist

What it does - The challenging excercise will raise your body temperature which helps in stimulating the release of toxins. Think of it as wringing out the toxins in your digestive tract.

How to do it - Begin in a runner's lunge. Your right leg should be bent at a 90 degree angle. Your left left should be extending straight behind you and your hands resting at either side of your right foot. Lower your left knee to the floor. Bring your hands into the pryer position with palms touching. Inhale. Exhale and rotate your upper body to the right bringing your left elbow to the ouside edge of your right knee. Continue in this position for 5 breaths. Repeat on the other side.

  2. Seated Tree

What it does - Increases circulation around your abdomen to wash away waste products and revitalize your organs.

How to do it - Sit on the floor with legs straight in front of you. Bend your left knee. Bring the sole of your left foot to your inner right thigh, letting the left knee drop toward the floor. Lengthen your spine and reach forward with your left hand to take hold of your right foot or shin. Twist your torso toward your right leg, folding forward at the hips over that leg. Hold for 5 to 10 deep breaths. Switch legs.

  3. Legs Up the Wall

What it does - Encourage drainage of blood and lymphatic fluid from the feet and legs into the abdomen where they can be more easily cleansed from your system. It also nourishes your digestive organs and gibe your circulatory system a rest. The results - increased function and energy.

How to do it - Sit with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor, and right shoulder and hip touching the wall. Roll onto your back while swinging your legs up onto the wall. Inch your butt as close to the wall as is comfortable. You can lay your arms on your tummy, your sides or above your head. Remain in the postion for 2 minutes.
